About NBD
Founded by Michael Haran, a long-time real estate professional.
Mr. Haran is a San Francisco native where he started his real estate career in 1975. Mr. Haran associated with both small and large investors, including Pacific Union Real Estate, in the construction of new buildings such as Opera Plaza and the renovation and conversion to condominium home of San Francisco’s historic Victorian structures. As part of the marketing efforts of these classic properties, Mr. Haran conducted research in to the history of these grand structure many of which were built in the mid-nineth century.
Through this work Mr. Haran was asked to associate with United Saving Bank which, at that time, was the largest minority owned saving & loan in the U.S. As vice president, Mr. Haran lead the $36,000,000 syndication of the construction and takeout financing for the San Francisco high-rise Bakewell-Brown Plaza. Through this effort Mr. Haran met dozens of S&L executives for which Mr. Haran conducted development Feasibility Studies and Highest and Best Use Analysis.
This activity led to the formation of Haran Brother’s Construction with Mr. Haran’s three brothers. Their first project was Northpoint Homes, a 36 home zero-lot line project in Salinas, CA which was bought from American Savings & Loan and financed by Saratoga Saving and Loan.
Since that time Haran Brother Construction has built and remodel dozens of homes and commercial properties specializing electrical and solar installations. Mr. Haran also founded First General Mortgage Company, North Beach Properties, and North Beach Lots and Land.
Noting the shortage of and poorly trained construction labor. Mr. Haran obtained a Master’s Degree from his alma mater Sonoma State University in Education Curriculum Development to train construction labor in association with National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). As part of this effort Mr. Haran wrote the 600-page Real Estate Development and Construction Resource book as an in-depth reference for the development and construction industries.
NBD is now actively pursuing large and small development and construction opportunities primarily in our home territory of Norther California but, because of our extensive research skills, also anywhere in the US and literally anywhere in the world. Equity and debt partners can associate as general partners, joint venture partners and limited partners. (See the Investment Structures page of this website).
